ENHANCEMENT of PERSISTENT CURRENT ON MULTICHANNEL RING
نویسنده
چکیده
We describe a ”train” effect which may exist in small metallic and semiconductor rings and might be associated with the long-standing problem of the persistent current enhancement. The current is associated with the cooperative motion of N electrons constituing the N -electron ”train”. The train arises via an excitation or a backflow of spin waves or of interchannel charge density sound modes. The impurities and defects have a little effect on the ”train” current. The reason is that the ”train” current is associated with a small momentum transfer ∆k = kfree/N , which is much smaller than the momentum transfer of the free electron current equal to kfree = 2π/L. For an illustration of the ”train” effect we have calculated the persistent current in the framework of the Bethe ansatz solutions for Hubbard model. The fractional M/N periodicities of the persistent current serve as an indication of the electron ”train”.

Interaction-induced enhancement and oscillations of the persistent current
The persistent current I in integrable models of multichannel rings with both shortand long-ranged interactions is investigated. I is found to oscillate in sign and increase in magnitude with increasing interaction strength due to interaction-induced correlations in the currents contributed by different channels. For sufficiently strong interactions, the contributions of all channels are found ...
متن کاملNature of eigenstates in a mesoscopic ring coupled to a side branch
We formalize the parity effect of a multichannel ring coupled to a side branch using the tight binding model. We find that the tight binding model gives slightly different result from the continuum model. We also show that some states of the system can be nonmagnetic. In the multichannel ring coupled to a side branch, the persistent current in the ring does not change sign, over gigantic fluctu...

The persistent current in three-dimensional mesoscopic rings is investigated numerically. The model is tight-binding one with random site-energies and interaction between electrons. The Hartree-Fock approximation is adopted for the interaction between electrons, and models with up to 3 × 4 × 40 sites are investigated. It is shown that the long-range Coulomb interaction enhances the persistent c...

متن کاملCrossover from hc Õe to hc Õ2e current oscillations in rings of s-wave superconductors
We analyze the crossover from an hc /e periodicity of the persistent current in flux-threaded clean metallic rings toward an hc /2e-flux periodicity of the supercurrent upon entering the superconducting state. On the basis of a model calculation for a one-dimensional ring we identify the underlying mechanism, which balances the hc /e versus the hc /2e periodic components of the current density....
